Week 4.1 - The world's first 3D printing restaurant : Food Ink

3D printing has developed to the present day, and the materials that can be used have been used in the industrial fields of metals, ceramics, polymers, composite materials, construction materials, and other common materials. In recent years, 3D printed food has also appeared frequently in our sights.

This restaurant was created by the Dutch 3D printer manufacturer byFlow. In 2015, byFlow launched a 3D printer called Focus, which prints a wide range of ingredients including chocolate. The food provided in the restaurant includes hummus, chocolate mousse, pea puree, goat cheese, pizza, etc.; or, these foods can be molded from "paste"; The 3D food printer uses a new electronic blueprint system that not only facilitates printing food but also helps people design different styles of food. The "materials" used in the printer is an edible material such as chocolate sauce, butter, cheese, and the like. Once people draw the food pattern on the computer and match the ingredients, the electronic blueprint system will show the steps of the printer. The food is finally squeezed out of the extruder of the 3D printing device, and then the machine is made into a specific shape.

And Food Ink wants to provide not only 3D printed food. In this restaurant, everything from lamps to chairs to tableware is made by 3D printing. In order to match the high-tech feeling, the design of the restaurant also uses a futuristic style. Food Ink's vision is to create the perfect dining experience for customers by combining the most innovative and cutting-edge technologies and foods such as 3D printing and AR (Augmented Reality). At the same time, we hope to inspire people to think deeply about the sustainable development of food in the future, food nutrition, and food health, and show the world how emerging technologies affect people's eating habits and cultural customs.

Other examples: 3D printed chocolate

Choc Edge Ltd is a technology company that provides chocolate printing solutions for individuals and businesses. Choc Edge is an early starter of the chocolate 3D printing trend as they provide consumers with creative and whimsical chocolate design and production services. The company uses a unique process to complete the full print of chocolate. First submit a design idea and convert it to a 3D model, then convert it to the instruction code of the Choc Edge special Choc Creator program. This is done by a slicer that cuts the 3D model into layers and writes print instructions for each layer. In the end, the chocolate design can be printed accurately and quickly.
